“COVID precautions and protocols have made it challenging to produce shows with regular cast sizes. We thought it was a great time to explore a one person show,” stated O’Brien Davies.

“We chose Frida K to increase cultural awareness in our community as well as showcase the impact women in art and politics. The food and cultural exposure before the production allowed us to include more students and staff. We also included alumni as mentors to current students in the design of the show.”

Frida Kahlo was considered one of Mexico’s greatest artists, born July 6, 1907 in Coyocoan, Mexico City, Mexico. She attended the renowned National Preparatory School in Mexico City in 1922 where she met famous Mexican muralist Diego Rivera. Frida was injured in a bus accident which left her in a great deal of pain, both physically and physiologically. Her parents encouraged her to paint and made a special easel for her to paint in bed. She reconnected with Rivera in 1928 and married him the next year, despite her mother’s objections.

The Theatre Department is also partnering with other campus organization who will be selling tacos, aguas frescas and other concession goodies from 6-7:15pm. Tickets are available by calling 417.455.5458 or at the door: General Admission - $10; Senior citizens - $7; Crowder Students/Staff - $6; for group dates please call to make reservations.
