Newsmakers program features women who made their mark in Joplin

(From Southern News Service)

March is Women’s History month and in honor of the many women who were instrumental in shaping the Joplin community, Historic Murphysburg Preservation Inc. and the Post Art Library created a coloring book featuring those women.

The coloring book and the many accomplishments of those groundbreaking efforts by women will be featured on the next "Newsmakers" on KGCS-TV.

Mary Anne Phillips with Historic Murphysburg Preservation talks about the group’s latest efforts and upcoming events. She also explains what it was like to be the first director of Joplin’s Recycling Center and how she was instrumental in bringing recycling to Joplin.

Jill Sullivan, director of the Post Art Library, also discusses the coloring book and what those very important women, who are featured in the book, mean to Joplin’s history.

The show will begin airing nightly on KGCS at 5 p.m. the week of March 21, and at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, March 27, on KOAM-TV. It is also posted on the station’s YouTube channel – KGCS Missouri Southern.

KGCS programming can be seen on channel 21, and is also available on regional cable television systems such as Sparklight, Mediacom and Suddenlink Communications. The station operates as a service of the Department of Communication at Missouri Southern State University.
