Joplin police detective honored for work on multi-state sex trafficking case

The Joplin Police Department is proud to recognize Detective Chip Root, who was recently honored by the Federal Bureau of Investigation- Kansas City Field Office as the Task Force Officer of the Year for 2021. 

This nomination and award centered around Detective Root's extensive and exhaustive work on a child sex trafficking case that involved multiple arrests throughout multiple states.









Detective Root is one of the Cyber Crimes Investigators at the Joplin Police Department, is assigned to the Southwest Missouri Cyber Crimes Task Force and is a Task Force Officer with the FBI. Detective Root has served with the Joplin Police Department for the last 17 1/2 years and has served in law enforcement for the last 28 years.
 
The FBI Kansas City Field Office covers all of the State of Kansas and the western half of the State of Missouri.
 
Congratulations Detective Root on this tremendous accomplishment and thank you for your hard work and dedication to our community and the overall protection of child victims throughout the area, region and country! We are proud of you!
