(From the Newton County Sheriff's Office)The Newton County Sheriff’s Office is proud to recognize Deputy Morgan Miller as the Deputy of the Quarter for the first quarter of 2025.
On March 25, 2025, Deputy Miller responded to a location on Spurgeon Road in reference to an animal abuse complaint. Deputy Miller found several puppies that had zip ties around their throats. The puppies were malnourished and not cared for.
Deputy Miller’s investigation found that an adult female dog had recently been dumped in the area prior to giving birth to the puppies. It was unknown who had placed the zip ties on the puppies’ throats.
Deputy Miller cut the zip ties off and began her work. Due to the late hour, she was not able to contact any local shelters. However, she was able to find a home in the area that was willing to take the puppies and their mother in for the night, until a shelter could be found.
The next morning, while off duty, Deputy Miller began contacting local animal shelters. She was unable to find assistance due to funding and overcrowding. Deputy Miller took the responsibility upon herself and began to raise funds to care for the puppies and their mother. She was able to raise enough money to get a local business to take the dogs into their care.
After raising the money, Deputy Miller went back to the residence where she had left the puppies. Deputy Miller found that someone had broken a window at the house, so she took the initiative and taped up and sealed the window until the glass could be replaced.
Deputy Miller went above and beyond to find adequate shelter for the animals as well as raising money for them to be taken care of. She also assisted the homeowner who had been of assistance to her by temporarily repairing their window. Almost all of this was done while she was off duty. Deputy Miller’s actions are in keeping the highest standards of public service; she is recognized as a valuable member of the Newton County Sheriff's Office. Thank you, Deputy Miller, for your actions.
