(From KGCS) More than one-third of today’s college students are low-income and 4.8 million of them are also parents. Helping them with holiday gift giving is the goal of Roary’s Gift Express, just one effort coming into focus on the next Newsmakers program. Project Stay Coordinator, Jared Carper and Karli Fort, Coordinator of Roary’s Gift Express explain how students registered for the gift giveaway along with how faculty, staff and the community can donate to support the effort.
Salvation Army Pastor, Captain Bill Middendorp with Brianna Allen and Debra Gaskill discuss the charity’s Angel Tree program that provides for hundreds of children and families. They also share how the community can volunteer as bell ringers for the red kettle campaign that supports the Salvation Army’s efforts during the holidays and year-round.
Jesse Brower with Campus Activities talks about plans for the MSSU Holiday Happenings event December 4 that features a vendor market, tree lighting and even reindeer. A video story shares Joplin Christmas parade plans.
Newsmakers is airing nightly at 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. beginning November 9 on KGCS-TV and will air at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, November 15 on KOAM-TV. It is also posted on the station’s YouTube channel: KGCS – Missouri Southern State University.
KGCS-TV programming can be seen on channel 21 and is also available on regional cable television systems such as Sparklight, Mediacom and Optimum Internet. The station operates as a service of the Department of Communication at Missouri Southern State University.
