(From the Lamar R-1 School District)The Lamar R-I School District was recently notified that a student was diagnosed with pertussis (whooping cough). The student was kept home, received appropriate treatment, and is no longer contagious.
Pertussis spreads when an infected person coughs or sneezes and others breathe in the bacteria. Early symptoms may include a runny nose and a mild cough, which can progress to a persistent cough and may include a fever.
Diagnosis is confirmed through lab testing. If you have any concerns or notice symptoms, please contact your healthcare provider.
