(From KGCS)Hanging in a harness from the ceiling with arms and legs moving in dance-like stretching movements, an inventor shows off his creation to help rehabilitate muscles and joints while suspended in air. The device called the PENDL is housed in the new Applied Suspension Training Research Lab at Missouri Southern State University. The ASTR lab and another called the DARI Lab, short for Dynamic Athletic Research Institute, are the focus of the next Newsmakers program.
Kinesiology Department professors Dr. Andrea Cullers and Dr. Rawsam Alasmar explain how the labs were developed. Dr. Conor Theiss shares how the DARI lab features a 3D motion analysis system of cameras to help diagnose areas of weakness in the body to guide physical rehabilitation recommendations.
Three students with the MSSU KCU Early Acceptance Program talk about their research in shoulder pain treatment utilizing both labs. And a video segment features the creator of the PENDL and how the equipment was designed.
