Where: Barton County Route V bridge over Little Dry Wood Creek between 35th Lane and 45th Lane northeast of Liberal

When: 7 a.m.-4 p.m., Wednesday & Thursday, September 11 & 12

What: MoDOT crews doing bridge work on Route V

Traffic Impacts

Route V CLOSED where crews are working

Drivers will have access to all driveways and entrances on either end of the bridge, but will not be able to drive through the work zone

All Route V lanes OPEN to traffic during nighttime hours

No signed detours

Drivers urged to find alternate routes

Check MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map for road closings/traffic impacts

Weather and/or construction delays will alter the work schedule.

Free country music concert planned at Missouri Southern

Joplin area music lovers are invited to join students, faculty and staff at Missouri Southern State University for a free concert by rising country music artists Andrew Salgado and Delaney Ann at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, September 5. The two singer/songwriters are crossing the Midwest with the Synapse Star Search Bus Tour on its way to Nashville for competition finals.

Both artists have music videos that have been featured on the KGCS-TV music video program Beyond Billboard Hits which airs nightly at 9:30 p.m. The singers will be part of an upcoming Newsmakers program as well as being featured individually on the KGCS program Behind the Bands.

The concert is being held in Corley Auditorium in Webster Hall at MSSU. Doors open for the free concert at 12:30 p.m. Thursday. The public is welcome.

KGCS programming can be seen on channel 21 and is also available on regional cable television systems such as Sparklight, Mediacom and Optimum Internet in Carthage. The station operates as a service of the Department of Communication at Missouri Southern State University.

Pineville man injured in crash south of Powell

A Pineville man was injured in a one-vehicle accident 12:18 p.m. today on Route E four miles south of Powell.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 1991 Ford Ranger driven by Glen M. Bise, 30, Pineville, traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck an embankment.

Bise was treated for minor injuries at Mercy Hospital, Bella Vista, Arkansas.

 

Sarcoxie man injured in Sunday shooting, appears to be act of self-defense

On September 1st, 2024, at approximately 1:20 PM, Jasper County Sheriff’s Deputies and detectives responded to 117 S. 12th Street in Sarcoxie in reference to an individual with a gunshot wound. 

The injured male was identified as Bryan Jones, 39 years of age of Sarcoxie. 

Jones was transported to a local hospital in Joplin with a non-life threatening, single gunshot wound.

The shooter has been identified and is cooperating with law enforcement. Preliminary investigation indicates this to be an act of self-defense. This is an isolated event and there is no danger to the public. Investigation in the matter continues.

Goodman man suffers serious injuries crashing into tree

A Goodman man was injured in a one-vehicle accident 12 a.m. today on River Road two miles south of Joplin.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2024 Honda CBR 600 driven by Zachary J. Pedersen, 19, Goodman, failed to negotiate a curve, traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck a tree.

Pedersen was treated for serious injuries at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin.

Joplin woman injured in crash near Newtonia

A Joplin woman was injured in a one-vehicle accident 2:20 p.m. today on MO 86, a half mile west of Newtonia.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2004 Pontiac Bonneville driven by Carol J. Little, 53, Joplin, traveled off the right side of the roadway to avoid a car in the same lane and struck a ditch.

Little was treated for minor injuries at Cox Hospital, Cassville.

 

6-year-old Carthage boy flown to Mercy Springfield after ATV accident

 A 6-year-old Carthage boy was injured in a one-vehicle accident 9:30 p.m. today on Dispatch Road two miles south of Carthage.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a Zhejiang ATV driven by 6-year-old Carthage boy struck a concrete driveway ejecting the boy.

The boy was airlifted to Mercy Springfield to be treated for serious injuries.
