Woodfire pottery exhibit at Spiva Center topic for Newsmakers program

Art can be the inspiration of individuals but sometimes it is created through community. That is true of a display on exhibit at Spiva Center for the Arts which is one of several getting our focus in the next Newsmakers program.

Spiva Center for the Arts Executive Director Heather Lesmeister and Marketing and Impact Strategist Paige Mock explain how exhibits are designed around a theme and curated. They also share about classes available for all age groups. 

Clay artist Brent Skinner and Spiva Exhibits Director Shaun Conroy discuss Big Magic: A Community of Woodfired Potters. A collaborative project using a 30-foot long kiln called Big Magic. Two other exhibits feature printmaking. Betsy Mense talks about her process of creating works for the Press Play: Collage in Print exhibit. David Pryor talks about prints selected from his father’s collection that include works by nationally renowned artists.

Newsmakers is airing nightly at 5 p.m. and 9 p.m., beginning on KGCS-TV September 20 and will air at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, September 26 on KOAM-TV. It is also posted on the station’s YouTube channel: KGCS – Missouri Southern State University.

KGCS-TV programming can be seen on channel 21 and is also available on regional cable television systems such as Sparklight, Mediacom and Optimum Internet. The station operates as a service of the Department of Communication at Missouri Southern State University.
