Three motorcyclists injured in four-vehicle crash near Carthage

Three motorcyclists were injured in a four-vehicle accident 3 p.m. today on Highway 96, six miles east of Carthage.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2004 Toyota Tacoma driven by Andrew C. Yoder, 16, LaRussell, failed to stop for a stopped vehicle, then crossed the center line in front of three motorcyclists coming from the opposite direction, striking a 2001 Harley Davidson driven by Richard L. Wehr, 51, Nixa.

A 1998 Harley Davidson driven by Billy C. Riley, 29, Vinita, Oklahoma, was avoiding the two vehicles and overturned. A 2009 Harley Davidson driven by John B. Hicks, 46, Carterville, struck the Riley motorcycle and overturned.

Wehr, Riley, and Hicks were taken to Mercy Hospital, Joplin, where they were treated for serious, minor, and moderate injuries, respectively.
