Badge ceremony held for eight new Joplin Police officers

(From the Joplin Police Department)

We had a badge pinning ceremony June 7 for our newest eight officers. Officers Ethan Crow, Pheng Yang, Matthew Smith, Abigail Ibarra, Jared Hummel, Jason Sandbothe, Keaton Siebenaler and Jacob Wright graduated the MSSU Basic Police Academy in May.

Once hired by the Joplin Police Department they enter six weeks of advanced police training where they receive instruction on everything from report writing to defensive tactics. Each must show proficiency in these task before they earn a badge. We place a very high importance on the badge, for it represents our community and all the laws we enforce, from the constitution all the way to city ordinances.

Starting tonight these eight officers will enter a 16 week field training program where they will be placed in patrol cars with senior officers who have received training on coaching and evaluating new officers.

We are proud of these officers and their accomplishments and although they are not completely finished with their training we know they are prepared for the challenges ahead of them.
