Joplin woman killed; motorcyclist cited for DWI, manslaughter

A Joplin woman, riding as a passenger on a motorcycle, was killed and the driver cited for driving while intoxicated and felony manslaughter following a one-vehicle accident 1:45 a.m. today on MO 86, five miles south of Joplin.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2012 Harley Davidson driven by Bryan W. McCutcheon, 45, Joplin, ran off the roadway and overturned, ejecting McCutcheon and his passenger, Chelsey R. McCutcheon, 32, Joplin.

Chelsey McCutcheon was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:49 a.m. by Newton County Coroner Brian Artherton.

Bryan McCutcheon was treated for serious injuries at Mercy Hospital, Joplin.

In addition to DWI and manslaughter, McCutcheon was cited for careless and imprudent driving.

The fatality was the 55th this year for Highway Patrol Troop D.
