Options to ease traffic concerns to be tested at Stone's Corner roundabout

(From MODOT)

Options to address traffic concerns at the roundabout at Missouri routes 171/43 (Stone’s Corner) will be tested Wednesday and Thursday mornings, October 26-27, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

MoDOT will install temporary rumble strips in the westbound lanes of Route 171 just east of the intersection to see whether that creates gaps in traffic flow to allow southbound Route 43 traffic to enter the roundabout and relieve congestion during morning drive time.

MoDOT traffic engineers will measure speed before and after the rumble strips are installed as well as observe how traffic flows through the roundabout.

A final decision about making the change permanent will come after evaluating the test results.

Earlier this year, changes were made to the roundabout to address right-turn crashes occurring within the roundabout. The southbound Route 43 right lane was designated “right-turn” only creating increased traffic congestion for drivers in the southbound Route 43 left-lane or through lane.
