Collision with deer just the beginning of three-vehicle accident on I-49

A Fort Scott, Kansas, woman was injured in a three-vehicle accident 6:55 a.m. today on I-49, six miles north of Lamar.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2007 Ford Fusion struck a deer and was disabled in the driving lane. A 2013 Nissan Sentra driven by Courtney N. Haynes, 24, Fort Scott, stopped to check on the car's occupants. A 2013 Chevrolet Impala driven by Ronald S. Cosens, 62, Clinton, hit the Fusion in the rear, sending it into the median where it hit the Haynes vehicle in the rear.

Haynes was treated for minor injuries at Mercy Hospital, Joplin.
