City of Joplin issues warning: Lights on low-water bridge on Murphy Boulevard not working

(From the City of Joplin)

City staff alerts the public that the lights on the low-water bridge located on Murphy Boulevard, just west of Main Street, are not operating at this time. City crews are working to have the lights repaired in the next week.

These lights are used to notify drivers of a road closure at this location when flooding hazard occurs.

Citizens who travel this route should note that if a flooding risk at this location occurs prior to the repairs, the gates will be locked to avoid travelers entering flood water. There will not be lights alerting drivers of the closure, so please use caution if inclement weather occurs. When waters subside, City crews will clear the debris off the road and open the gates.

We appreciate the public’s attention to this safety notice.
