(From the City of Joplin)The City of Joplin is developing a contingency plan should the need arise to reduce transit services. As part of the contingency plan, four options are being considered to reduce daily service on Metro Area PublicTransit System (MAPS) and the Sunshine Lamp Trolley. The four options being considered are as follows:
#1 Reduce MAPS service from six routes per day to three routes per day
#2 Reduce MAPS service to four routes per day and reduce Trolley hours from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. to 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
#3 Reduce MAPS service to three routes per day and condense trolley system to two routes that would operate on one and a half (1 ½ ) hour loops from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
#4 Eliminate trolley service and continue to operate six MAPS routes per day
The City of Joplin will host two Public Meetings on January 27, 2022 for citizens to provide comments about the four service reduction options under consideration, if City does not have staff to maintain current operations. The first meeting is scheduled from 1:30 to 3 p.m. and the second meeting is scheduled from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Both Public Meetings will be held in the Council Chambers of the Joplin City Hall, 602 S. Main, Joplin, MO.
Public Transit riders and the general public are encouraged to give comments at either of these meetings. Please contact the MAPS office, 417-626-8607, if wanting to schedule a ride to attend the 1:30 to 3 p.m. meeting. Joplin City Hall is stop #3 on the trolley system route.
