Carthage man arrested, deputies assaulted following escape attempt in Joplin Courts Building

On January 24th, 2022, at approximately 10:25 AM, at the Joplin Courts Building, Judge Gayle Crane in Division 1 court ordered Jacob Lee Jones to be taken into custody. Jones, 21, of Carthage, then attempted to flee from the courtroom. 

He made it out into the hallway and into another area of the court where he was immediately apprehended.






 

During the struggle, two deputies received minor injuries.

The Sheriff’s Office has submitted to the Jasper County Prosecutor seeking charges of two counts of assault on a law enforcement officer, property damage and resisting arrest by fleeing.
