(From KGCS)Having a loved one in the hospital creates all kinds of concerns. But for caregivers, the patient coming home can be just the start of worries. The Medical Loan Closet of Joplin has become a source of information and vital equipment like walkers and wheelchairs for people in this situation, and is the focus of this week’s Newsmakers program.
Nicole Watson, RN, is the founder of the Medical Loan Closet which started in her garage and has grown into a house next to Grace Baptist Church as well as a warehouse.
She discusses how it started and why working at Phoenix Home Care she saw the need. Volunteers take us on a tour of the closet and clients talk about the benefits of the shared equipment and advice in a video feature. The mission is securing non-profit status and is hoping to fundraise to move to a larger space.
