Charges dropped- Update on "The Joplin Police Department and the Night My Daughter Died"

Special prosecutor James Nichols has dismissed all charges against Kevin Russell, 44, and his son, Brant Russell, 22. The charges stemmed from occurrences the night that Brooke Russell, 16, their daughter and sister, committed suicide. After the charges were filed, Kevin Russell put his story on Facebook and the first media outlet to pick it up was Inside Joplin. Kevin Russell's original story is printed below:

Six months ago, my family and I went through a horrible tragedy. We found my 16-year-old daughter with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Dealing with the death of my daughter has been beyond difficult and especially the way she died. I was in a forgiving mood the next morning from the Joplin Police Department mistakes, but then I read the police reports three weeks later and literally started shaking as to what they said.
