Youth Build program to be featured on Newsmakers program

(From KGCS)

Hands-on learning through a construction-based program will help students find a way to getting their GED and paid experience at the same time. YouthBuild is a program offered by the Joplin Job Center and Workforce Investment Board, and it is the focus of the next Newsmakers program.

Pam Regan, One-Stop Operator at Joplin Job Center and Sherri Rhuems, Director of Workforce Investment Board of Southwest Missouri explain how students between the ages of 16 and 24, who were unsuccessful in the traditional school setting, can apply to the program. Participants DJ Lee and Ayden Reynolds share how the work-based program empowers them with confidence, team building and leadership skills. Plus, YouthBuild provides work clothes, tools and other supports.

Newsmakers is airing nightly at 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. beginning on KGCS-TV August 23 and will air at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, August 29 on KOAM-TV. It is also posted on the station’s YouTube channel: KGCS – Missouri Southern State University.

KGCS-TV programming can be seen on channel 21 and is also available on regional cable television systems such as Sparklight, Mediacom and Optimum Internet. The station operates as a service of the Department of Communication at Missouri Southern State University.
