Arkansas man injured in accident near Seneca

An Arkansas man was injured in a car-motorcycle accident 7:30 a.m. today, on U. S> 60 four miles east of Seneca.

According to the Highway Patrol report, the accident occurred when a 2003 Pontiac Bonneville, driven by Callie C. Turney, 22, Granby, slowed suddenly and was hit in the rear by a 2008 Kawasaki motorcycle driven by Sergio O. Garza, 39, Bella Vista, Arkansas.

Garza suffered moderate injuries and was treated at Freeman West in Joplin.

Newsmakers to feature interview with Joplin Mayor Michael Seibert

Michael Seibert, Joplin’s new mayor, is the guest on the upcoming edition of the “Newsmakers” interview program airing on KGCS-TV.  

During the half-hour interview, Seibert discusses his role as mayor as well as challenges and opportunities for the city. He answers questions regarding future transportation plans, rebuilding efforts and economic development.

The interview will air the following times on KGCS-TV:

Sunday, May 4 – 5:30 p.m.
Monday, May 5 – 5:30 p.m.
Tuesday, May 6 – 5:30 p.m.
Wednesday, May 7 – 5:30 p.m.

KOAM-TV will air the program at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, May 17. It will also be available for viewing via YouTube through the KGCS-TV website, www.mssu.edu/kgcs/newsmakers.php

The Joplin Police Department arrested the following people for driving while intoxicated:

Eli G. Hicks, 23, Diamond
Jake Patrick Devore, 22, Carl Junction

Two injured in McDonald County accident

Two Noel residents were injured in an accident at 2:55 p.m. Wednesday on MO 90, two miles west of Jane.

According to the Highway Patrol, the accident occurred when Maria S. Tapia-Herrera, 31, drove a 2003 Kia Sorento off the left side of the roadway, struck a tree, and overturned. She received moderate injuries. A passenger in the vehicle, Joselyn Torres, 3, received minor injuries. Both were taken to Freeman West Hospital.

Funeral services scheduled for Quapaw tornado victim

Funeral services for John Brown, 68, Baxter Springs, who died Sunday in the Quapaw tornado, will be held Friday, May 2, 11 a.m. in the chapel of Simpson Funeral Home in Carl Junction with Dr. Mack Evans and Pastor Jock Evans officiating.

A visitation will be held on Thursday 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial with full military honors will be at Black Jack Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorial contributions to the Sheep Shed Church in his memory in care of the funeral home.
