Deputy Nathan Deherrera was awarded Jasper County Sheriff's Office employee of the quarter. 

On June 22nd 2021 Deputy Deherrera and his canine partner Arner, stopped a car in Jasper County after a canine sniff alert, and a search warrant was obtained, a search of the vehicle located a firearm and 315 grams ( just over 1/2 pound) of methamphetamine was located in the vehicle. 

Congratulations to Deputy Nathan Deherrera.

MODOT schedules seal coat work at three Newton County locations

MoDOT: Seal Coat Work Planned in Seven Southwest Missouri Counties Starting Week of August 9

Southwest District – State routes in seven (7) southwest Missouri counties are scheduled to be sealed with a mixture of rock and oil beginning the week of August 9, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

Here’s a look at the locations:

Newton/Barry County – Route A from Newton County Route D near Stella east to Missouri Route 86 in Wheaton (8.7 miles)

Newton County - Route HH between U.S. Route 60/Missouri Route 59 near Neosho and Missouri Route 86 in Fairview (15.4 miles)

Newton County - Route U from Missouri Route 43 in Seneca west to Missouri/Oklahoma state line (1.1 miles)

Christian/Greene County – Route ZZ between Missouri Route 14 near Clever and Greene Country Route M in Republic (8.5 miles)

Dade County – Route Y between Missouri Route 39 in Arcola and Missouri Route 215 194 (9.4 miles)

Lawrence/Christian County – Missouri Route 14 between U.S. Route 60 in Marionville and U.S. Route 60/Missouri Route 413 in Billings (8 miles)

Taney County – Missouri Route 265 between U.S. Route 65 and Iowa Colony Road near Hollister (3.1 miles)

Drivers also can expect flaggers and pilot cars directing them through the work zone. Drivers should wait for the pilot vehicle before proceeding through the work zone or before entering the work zone from a side road. 

Lane closings can be expected between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Crews could work Sundays to make up work missed due to weather delays.

Signs and message boards will alert drivers to the work zone.

Weather and/or scheduling delays will alter the work schedule.

A seal coat is not an alternative to an asphalt overlay, but is planned for these roads as an economical way to maintain and preserve the roadway. The treatments keep a road from deteriorating and will extend its life.

TRAFFIC ALERT: Reduced Lanes, Traffic Delays on Rt 571 in Carthage for Paving/Striping Aug. 5 & 6


Where: Missouri Route 571 (Fairlawn/Garrison Avenue) between Fairview Avenue and Airport Drive in Carthage

When:
Paving – 7 m.-7 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 5
Striping – 7 a.m.-5 p.m., Friday, Aug. 6

What: Traffic will be reduced to one lane while contractor crews pave and stripe Route 571 (Fairlawn/Garrison Avenue) between Fairview Avenue and Airport Drive. At the conclusion of this work, it is expected the new roundabout at Route 571 and Elk Street will be OPEN to traffic.

Traffic Impacts

Traffic will be reduced to one lane to allow contractor crews to pave and stripe Route 571

 (Fairlawn/Garrison Avenue) between Fairview Avenue and Airport Drive

Drivers can expect to be directed through the work zone by flaggers

All lanes of Route 571 (Fairlawn/Garrison Avenue) remain CLOSED between Southside Boulevard and Maple Street

Signs and message boards will alert drivers approaching work zone

Drivers are urged to seek alternate route

Weather and/or scheduling conflicts could alter the work schedule.

Additional Project Information: This work is part of a project that also includes resurfacing and sidewalk improvements along Route 571 between Fairview Avenue and I-49.

Joplin man injured in motorcycle accident

A Joplin man was injured in a one-vehicle accident 4:45 p.m. Saturday on Route NN, one mile south of Joplin.

According to the Highway Patrol report, Amiel R. Overman,  27, Joplin, lost control of the 1973 Harley Davidson motorcycle and the vehicle overturned.

Overman was treated for minor injuries at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin.
