Granby man killed in pickup-horse collision on 86

A Granby man was killed in a pickup-horse collision 6:20 p.m. today on MO 86, five miles east of Neosho.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2007 Dodge Ram driven by John M. Johnson, 49, Stark City, struck a horse ridden by Keith Hopper, 49, Granby, in the roadway.

Hopper was pronounced dead at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin, by Dr. Dalton.

The fatality was the sixth this year for Highway Patrol Troop D.

City of Lamar making changes on storm siren tests

The City of Lamar is making a change to our Storm Siren Test Procedure.

Beginning Wednesday February 13, the Fire Department will be testing the storm sirens, weather permitting at 1:00 PM. 

Future routine tests will be done on the second Wednesday of each month at 1:00 PM. 

The previous monthly test done the first Saturday of each month will be discontinued.

Carthage Police investigating stolen truck report at Leggett & Platt Wire Mill

On 01/24/2019 at approximately 0700 hours a white 1998 Chevrolet 1500 regular cab w/t trim truck was stolen from the Leggett and Platt Wire Mill in Carthage.

The truck had Missouri plates of 8SP-832. Attached is an example picture of the truck. 

It's the work truck package so it has the square headlights instead of the rectangular headlights.

Carthage, area police receiving multiple stolen vehicle reports

Our agency and surrounding agencies are continuing to take multiple stolen vehicle reports. Most are due to the owners leaving the vehicles unlocked with the keys in them, especially when letting the vehicle warm up while the owner goes back inside their residence or business or leaving the vehicle running such as at a convenience store.

We are also taking a LOT of theft of property from vehicles reports. Most all of them are of vehicles being left unlocked overnight.

PLEASE lock your vehicles and don't leave your keys in them.

 If you are going to warm the car up please stay with the vehicle. Take all of your property inside especially your firearms. We've had several thefts of firearms left inside unlocked vehicles. Most of the time these thieves are looking for easy and quick access into the vehicle. Don't make it easier for them by leaving your vehicle unlocked.
