8/19.2024 Officer was dispatched to the 800 block of Broadway for a call of property damage. Upon arrival, it was discovered that someone had tried to unsuccessfully break in. Investigation continues.

8/19/2024 Officer was dispatched to the 1200 block of E 16th St. Paperwork will be sent to the Barton County Prosecuting Attorney for consideration of charges of Domestic Assault 2nd Degree.

8/19/2024 Officer went to the 1200 block of Grand St for a property damage report. Another officer answered a 911 call in the 400 block of E. 12th St. Both situations were related. One person was issued a summons for property damage. One person was arrested and transported to Barton County Jail for Assault 2nd degree.

8/23/2024 Officer was dispatched to Walmart for three reports of past tense theft. Suspect one was trespassed from Walmart Stores. Suspect two was trespassed and paperwork will be submitted to the Barton County Prosecuting Attorney for consideration of charges of Stealing Under $750 (Shoplifting) Suspect three was transported to the Barton County Jail where he was booked and released with two summonses, one for Shoplifting and one for Trespassing.

8/23/2024 Officer was took a report of a past tense fraud. Investigation continues.

Sarcoxie man injured in crash caused by equipment failure

A Sarcoxie man was injured in a one-vehicle accident 2:50 p.m. today on Blackberry Road three miles west of Sarcoxie.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2023 Special Two Door driven by Joshua D. Smith, 29, Sarcoxie, experienced an equipment failure, traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck a fence and a tree stump.

Smith was treated for moderate injuries at Mercy Carthage.

Sidewalk improvements planned on Route NN in Liberal

Sidewalk Improvements on Route NN (Payne Street) in Liberal Scheduled to Begin Week of Sept. 3

Drivers should watch for contractor crews making sidewalk improvements and working close to traffic in Liberal along Barton County Route NN (Payne Street) beginning the week of September 3, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

Improvements include making curb ramps, landings, crosswalks, pedestrian signs, handrails and pavement markings conform to Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements along Route NN (Payne Street) between Maple Street and Darwin Street.

Traffic Impacts

Work will be done during daytime hours (7 a.m.-7 p.m., Monday-Thursday)

Drivers may encounter occasional lane closures and flaggers in areas where crews are working

Signs and message boards will alert drivers approaching work zones

No signed detours

Drivers should find alternate routes around work zones

Check MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map for road closings/traffic impacts

Weather and/or construction delays will alter the work schedule.

Route 66 Bridge closed, I-49/Shoal Creek Bridge lane reductions set in Jasper County

Route 66 Bridge CLOSED, I-49/Shoal Creek Bridge Lane Reductions in Jasper County

A project to repair and resurface the bridge decks/driving surfaces on Missouri Route 66/Missouri Route 249 and I-49/Shoal Creek bridges in Jasper County is scheduled to begin the week of September 2, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

Here’s what drivers can expect when the project begins.

Traffic Impacts

8 p.m., Friday, September 6 through 6 a.m., Monday, September 9 – Route 66/Route 249 bridge in Duenweg CLOSED

No signed detour, drivers are urged to find alternate routes

Drivers will have access to driveways and entrances on either end of the bridge but will not be able to travel through the work zone

When work on Route 66 is complete, contractor crews will move to I-49/Shoal Creek bridges north of Missouri Route 175 (Gateway Drive) south of Joplin

Drivers will encounter lane reductions in both directions and delays during peak traffic times

At least one lane will be open in both directions on I-49 at all times

No signed detours in either direction

Drivers should find alternate routes around work zones

Signs and message boards will alert drivers approaching the work zones

Check MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map for road closings/traffic impacts

In addition to the bridge deck/driving surface resurfacing and repair, the contractor will add permanent pavement striping.

Weather and/or unforeseen delays will alter the work schedule.
