With more than 25 Boards and Commissions, the City of Joplin appreciates the many citizens who volunteer to serve on these committees. Board members serve various term lengths, and often serve several terms to help review City projects, plans and proposals.
On Monday, November 17, the Joplin City Council will recognize those citizens who have completed their terms during the Council meeting. Members will receive a recognition plaque and a thank you gift for their service. The honorees will also attend a reception immediately following the 6 p.m. meeting. The reception will be held in the fifth floor lobby of Joplin City Council with cake and punch being served.
This year the citizens being recognized and their years of service on a City Board include:
AIRPORT - Richard Russell, 2008-2014
BUILDING BOARD OF APPEALS - Steven Reed, 2008-2014
CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS - Don Richardson, 2007-2014
CITY TREE BOARD - Jason Grossman, 2009-2014; Charles Keeter, 2009-2014
DESIGN REVIEW - Steve McCollum, 2006-2014
HOUSING AUTHORITY - Ron Apfel, 2002-2010; William L. Smith, 1972-2014
JOPLIN REDEVELOPMENT CORPORATION - Brian Shaw, 2008-2014
JOPLIN SPORTS AUTHORITY - Todd Chenault, 2008-2014; Randy Evans, 2008-2014; and John Hoffman, 2008-2014
PERSONNEL - Larry Myers, 2008-2014
PLANNING & ZONING - Bob Harrington, 2008-2014
Citizens interested in serving on a City Board or Commission are welcome to submit an application throughout the year. Citizens must be a qualified voter in the City or the state of Missouri. Some boards may have specific requirements for its members. Applications are kept on file for two years. The City Council makes appointments to these organizations on an as needed basis.
Each of the 25 boards represents a specific area of City government, and citizens may designate which board(s) they are applying to offer their service. A full listing of the boards and commissions is available on the City’s website, www.joplinmo.org.
