A dedication ceremony for The Chart Hall of Fame will be held at approximately 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21, in the atrium on the third floor of Webster Hall at Missouri Southern State University.
Richard Massa, adviser to The Chart from 1972-84 and one of the first inductees into the Hall of Fame in 2012, will be in attendance along with former editors of the campus newspaper. Other inductees include the late Kenneth McCaleb, Cleetis Headlee and Jack Brannan.
The ceremony – to take place following the November Board of Governors meeting – will include a ribbon cutting for the newly decorated atrium in Webster Hall.
This marks the 75th anniversary of The Chart, which was established by McCaleb and first published on Nov. 10, 1939. In a 1988 interview, McCaleb explained how the student newspaper received its name.
“I wanted it to sound dignified, like a college newspaper, and The Chart was the best I could come up with,” he said. “Of course, I was taking algebra about that time; maybe I was thinking about a mathematical chart.”
