Joplin man charged with DWI, other felonies, after driving wrong way, hitting vehicle while fleeing from police in stolen car

On May 11th, 2020 at 10:42 A.M. a Joplin officer attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding and suspicion of driving while intoxicated near 20th St. & New Jersey Ave.

The driver of the vehicle fled from officers. The driver of the vehicle traveled to 32nd St & Main St where he turned southbound into the northbound lanes of traffic where he struck a vehicle and continued to flee. 

Near the intersection of 39th St. & Kentucky Ave the driver attempted to run from the still moving vehicle. As he attempted to flee his arm became stuck between the vehicle and a tree. 








The tree was taken down and the driver, identified as Marty W. Rickey (44 of Joplin), was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital for treatment to his arm. 

The truck Rickey was driving was a reported stolen vehicle out of Joplin. 

Rickey was released from the hospital and arrested for resisting arrest, driving under influence of drugs, possession of controlled substance and tampering with motor a vehicle.
