(From University of Missouri Extension)This fall, 20 Missouri 4-H delegates will travel to Atlanta, Georgia, for a once-in-a-lifetime experience. They will attend National 4-H Congress to network with peers from across the country. While there, they will attend workshops, complete service-learning opportunities and tour some of Atlanta’s landmarks.
“Thanks to 4-H, I have had and still have a safe environment where I can grow as a person and gain new leadership skills and experiences, and for that I am very thankful,” said Claire Starbuck, of Johnson County, during the application process.
“4-H affords me the opportunity to try new things; it also inspires me to bridge one opportunity to another,” said Jake Bartlett, of Platte County, in his 4-H story essay. Local 4-H club and county opportunities, along with state 4-H events, prepare teens for national programs.
Potential delegates traveled to Columbia to complete their interviews. The top 20 applicants were selected and announced at closing ceremonies during State 4-H Congress in June.
“Getting to meet them in person and see their commitment to Missouri 4-H was really inspiring,” says Megan Kershner, Missouri 4-H awards coordinator.
