(From the Joplin Police Department)The victim from this incident has been identified as Stephen L. Allen, age 50 of Joplin.
An autopsy was performed on July 28th and the manner and cause of death are still currently pending official autopsy results. Detectives are still actively working to determine the circumstances and cause of the incident. Further information may be released as it becomes available.

On July 27th, 2023, at 2:20 p.m. the Joplin Police Department Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call for a report of a vehicle that went into the water in Shoal Creek near Glendale Road and south Jackson Avenue.
Officers and emergency personnel responded to the scene to begin rescue and investigative efforts. It was determined shortly thereafter the vehicle was found to be occupied by an adult male who was determined to be deceased.
Detectives with the Joplin Police Department as well as members of the Major Crash Team are currently on scene and actively working the investigation. Further details will be released as they become available.
