MSSU Ireland Semester events to be featured on Newsmakers

(From KGCS)

The themed semester is a critical element of Missouri Southern State University’s International Mission.

This year, the focus is on Ireland. Dr. Chad Stebbins, Director of the Institute of International Studies, details the benefits of traveling abroad and the more than 40 events planned for the semester on Newsmakers.

The community is welcome to attend all events and the majority are free. The exception this year is a concert with beer or whiskey tastings taking place at Just a Taste in Webb City. They can also sample Irish foods and desserts at the Mayes Dining Hall for a nominal fee.

A printed guide outlines all the events including a chance to meet the author of Brooklyn, Colm Tólbín and get books signed. There’s also a film festival with a passport listing the showings on campus and at Bookhouse Cinema. The semester’s events kicked off with an Art exhibit by students who traveled to Ireland over the summer. Viewers will hear from them and learn what inspired their art projects.

Newsmakers is airing nightly at 5 and 9 p.m. the week of August 27 on KGCS-TV and will be broadcast at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, September 2, on KOAM-TV. It is also posted on the station’s YouTube channel: KGCS - Missouri Southern State University.

KGCS programming can be seen on channel 21 and is also available on regional cable television systems such as Sparklight, Mediacom and Suddenlink Communications. The station operates as a service of the Department of Communications at Missouri Southern State University.
