(From the Neosho Fire Department)At approximately 5:06 a.m. on December 28, 2025, the Neosho Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at a single-family residence located at 508 Geyer Street. Neosho Firefighters arrived on scene at 5:10 a.m. and observed heavy smoke and flames coming from the rear of the home.
Firefighters quickly confirmed, with the Neosho Police Department, that all occupants had safely. evacuated and were sheltering at a neighboring residence. Initial fire attack operations began at the rear of the home, while additional crews advanced a handline through the front door to extinguish the interior fire. The blaze had extended from the exterior wall into the attic space.
The fire was brought under control at 5:29 a.m. Mutual aid was provided by Redings Mill Fire Protection District, Neosho Police Department, and Newton County Ambulance District. Crews conducted overhaul operations using thermal imaging cameras to locate and extinguish remaining hot spots. One pet was located inside the home and safely returned to the owner.
Residents reported that their smoke alarm alerted them to the fire, allowing them to evacuate safely.
An investigation determined the fire originated on the back porch and the cause was ruled accidental.
