Carthage teen suffers serious injuries as motorized bike crashes into tree

A Carthage teen was injured in a one-vehicle accident 12 p.m. today on County Road 118 two miles east of Carthage.

According to the Highway Patrol report, the front tire of a homemade motorized bike ridden by a 14-year-old Carthage boy detached from its frame.

The bike traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree and the teen was ejected.

He was treated for serious injuries at Mercy Joplin.
