Suspect in attack at Duenweg bus stop arrested in New York

On 9-5-2024, U.S. Marshal’s Service took David L. Bostic into custody in Queens New York on the warrant for first degree assault that took place on 1-11-2024 at the bus stop in Duenweg. The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office is awaiting his extradition back to Missouri. 

UPDATE #2 7-10-2024

Jasper County Detectives have positively identified the suspect in this case as 47- year-old David L. Bostic of Bellevue, Washington. Charges have been submitted for Bostic and a warrant has been issued for his arrest on the charge of Assault 1st degree. If anyone has information about Bostic's whereabouts, contact the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office or your local Law Enforcement agency immediately. 

Bostic has a history of violence and is considered armed and dangerous. Don’t approach him. Bostic has ties to multiple states including Missouri, Utah, Washington, Arkansas and New York.

The victim has been released from the hospital and is recovering. Detectives have followed up on several tips and the case is still active, we are asking the public for assistance on getting this suspect and vehicle identified. On 1-11-2024 at approximately 8:45 PM, Jasper County deputies responded to an assault call at the bus station in Duenweg. Upon arrival deputies contacted an 18-year-old male from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma with severe injuries to his neck. The male was transported to a local hospital and is stable condition with a stab wound to his neck. 

Detectives are currently working on this case and have released pictures of the unknown suspect and vehicle that was involved in this incident.

Hall Street in Webb City to be closed as construction begins on roundabout at Zora and Duquesne

STREET CLOSURE: (09/09/2024) 

Hall Street north of Zora Street

Plan your Monday morning commute accordingly.

Monday, September 9, work will begin on the construction of a new roundabout at the intersection of Zora St and Duquesne Rd/Hall St. 

During the first phase of this project, Hall Street north of the intersection will be completely closed to through traffic. 

During the first phase, east/west traffic on Zora St and the southern leg on Duquesne Rd will remain open. Detour routes will be posted. Truck traffic accessing the Joplin/Webb City Industrial Park will be detoured via Newman Rd to Range Line Rd or via Hwy 171 to Madison St.

 
Closures and traffic patterns will change as the project progresses. The project is anticipated to be completed this winter. Please watch for updates. 

The City appreciates the public’s patience and understanding as this intersection is made safer and more efficient for traffic flow in the area. This project is funded by the City of Joplin's Capital Improvement Sales Tax which was approved by Joplin voters in 2014.

Carthage woman injured crashing into building

A Carthage woman was injured in a one-vehicle accident 2:14 p.m. today on 9525 County Road 68 a mile and a half west of Carthage.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2019 Hyundai Tucson driven by Tamera S. Yust, 63, Carthage, struck a building.

Yust was treated for minor injuries at Mercy Joplin.

Newsmakers to feature country singers

Life as a budding musician often means life on the road and one bus tour made a stop at Missouri Southern State University for a free concert and an interview on Newsmakers.

The two singer/songwriters are crossing the Midwest with the Synapse Star Search Bus Tour on its way to Nashville for competition finals. Andrew Salgado is the tour emcee and coordinator while Professional Jump Roper David Fisher is the chief judge. Delaney Ann performs along with Salgado at tour stops. The Synapse Star Search competition concludes with finals in Nashville on November 2.

Both singers have music videos that have been featured on the KGCS-TV music video program Beyond Billboard Hits and performed a free concert at MSSU. They discuss the challenges of becoming a recording artist along with the rewards. Fisher shares how he became a professional jump roper and how he works within many schools.

Newsmakers is airing nightly at 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. the week of September 8 on KGCS-TV and will air at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, September 14 on KOAM-TV. It is also posted on the station’s YouTube channel: KGCS - Missouri Southern State University.

KGCS programming can be seen on channel 21 and is also available on regional cable television systems such as Sparklight, Mediacom and Optimum Internet in Carthage. The station operates as a service of the Department of Communication at Missouri Southern State University.

Springfield pedestrian struck, injured in SE Kansas

At 11:16 p.m. on Tuesday, September 3rd, 2024, Cherokee County emergency personnel were dispatched to an injury crash on K66 Highway near Southeast 69th in Riverton.

The preliminary crash investigation conducted by the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, indicates an eastbound 2007 Saturn passenger vehicle, driven by 65-year-old Ralph Brummett, of Alba Missouri, struck 25-year-old Steven Wahlers, of Springfield Missouri, who was walking in the lane of travel.

Wahlers, who was cited by a Missouri law enforcement agency on September 2nd, 2024, for being a pedestrian in the roadway, was transported by Cherokee County Emergency Medical Services to a Joplin area hospital. He was later transferred to a Springfield Hospital with serious injuries.
