Mercy Park opening rescheduled

(From the City of Joplin)

The public is invited to help celebrate the opening of Mercy Park with Joplin City officials, Mercy Joplin representatives, and others who have been a part of the development of Joplin’s newest park. The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 27 at the Park’s main pavilion near the pond. The program will include recognition of the citizens who suggested the name Mercy Park through the City’s naming contest held earlier this year with winning citizens providing their reasons for suggesting Mercy Park as the name, and then skipping a rock across the park’s pond to commemorate this honor.

Located at 26th and Maiden Lane, this 18-acre park includes trails, benches, picnic shelters, a pond, trees, native landscaping, and restrooms. This newest addition to Joplin’s park system was made possible through a land donation from Mercy Hospital, and funding through the City’s Community Development Block Grant for Disaster Recovery program administered by HUD.

Entrance to the park and parking is located just south of 26th Street, on the west side of St. John’s Boulevard.
