Minutes provided for East Newton R-6 Board of Education meeting

As part of the continued efforts in keeping the patrons informed, the East Newton R-VI Schools administration will provide monthly information concerning Board meetings.

A recap of the August, 2016 regular meetings is as follows:

Public Comments: None

The Board approved the Consent Agenda, including the previous month Board minute and monthly bills, and substitute teacher list.

Program evaluations for the month of August included a report on District finances.

Under reports a financial report was given for the month of July and first day enrollment numbers were presented. Total enrollment for the first day of school (K-12) was 1,306 students. Last year on the first day the district had 1,389. Enrollment has gone up slightly since the first day. Thursday enrollment had climbed to 1,324 students K- 12. A report on summer school was given. Summer school enrollment was 577 students and a summer school ADA of 63.8667.

Under Old Business, MSBA policy revisions GCBDA and GDBDA was tabled for a later meeting. Tire bids were accepted for TCI tire.

In respect to New Business, the Board approved the FY17 tax rate. The tax rate will be the same as it was the previous year, $3.2191 per tax payers assessed valuation. The operating levy is $2.75 and the debt levy is .4691. The .4691 was kept the same as promised in the April 2016 Bond Issue. 

The Board had the first reading of policy ADF and ADF-AP1. The Board next approved the Faculty Directories to be printed. 

The Board approved the FY17 Budget document presented. 

Next action the Board approved setting the tuition rate for out of district students at $6,500. 

The Board approved the first revision to the FY17 budget. 

The Board approved policy BBFA regarding Board financial disclosure. The Board approved an increase adjustment for milk prices to 45 cents from 40 cents due to a summer increase in cost. The Board approved policy JHC-AP1. 

Last on the agenda was a discussion regarding discipline within the district.

The next regular meeting is scheduled for September 15 at 5:30 p.m. at Central Office.
