The Campus Activities Board will present indie-pop band My Body Sings Electric at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, in Taylor Performing Arts Center.
The Denver, Colo, band released their self-produced debut EP, “They Don’t Want Music,” in 2008. The next summer found them featured on the Warped Tour. Their 2011 album “Changing Color” made CMJ’s Top 200 chart and garnered them an appearance at Austin’s SXSW festival the following year.
With their introspective lyrics, danceable rhythms, intricate instrumental work and dynamic live shows, they've crafted a fresh, energetic take on indie, pop and alternative rock.
The concert is free and open to the campus community.
Dr. Marble to appear on ‘Newsmakers’
Dr. Alan Marble discusses the start of the new academic year in the latest edition of “Newsmakers” on KGCS-TV.
The program will air at 5:30 and 9:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28, and Monday, Aug. 29, on KGCS, and at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, Sept. 1. It will also air at 5 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, on KOAM and can be viewed on the KGCS YouTube channel.
KGCS operates as a service of the Department of Communication at Missouri Southern State University. Programming may be seen over the air on digital channel 22 and on regional cable television systems.

Spirit Bingo: 12:20 p.m. in the Lions Den. Students can play for prizes in the event sponsored by the Campus Activities Board.
“Sense & Sensibility”: 7 p.m., Cornell Auditorium in Plaster Hall. Directed by Ang Lee, the 1995 Jane Austen adaptation received an Academy Award for its script by co-star Emma Thompson. Free and open to the public.
THURSDAY, SEPT. 1
“Pure Dead Brilliant” reception: 3 to 5 p.m., Spiva Art Gallery. The show features works by design students and faculty member Devon Estes, inspired by a recent trip to England. The show will run through Friday, Sept. 9. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

FRIDAY, SEPT. 2
“Rockers, Mods and the Birth of the British Invasion”: 10 a.m., Corley Auditorium in Webster Hall. Dr. Gregory Jones will examine the economic difficulties and cultural events that propelled a group of talented and charismatic British musicians into the limelight.
“Euphoria and Disillusionment: The Rise and Fall of the Counterculture”: 11 a.m., Corley Auditorium. Jones will look at the developments within the counterculture that swept away the optimism of the 1960. In its place was a bitter sense of entrapment that spawned new music that evoked escapism and resignation.
