Robbery suspects arrested at Carthage home after three-hour standoff

On August 22nd, 2016 at approximately 3:06 pm, the Carthage Police responded to a residence on the west side of Carthage for a reported armed robbery. 

After three male suspects fled the scene before officer arrival, the investigation into the armed robbery revealed the three male suspects were believed to be in a residence on the south end of Carthage.

Carthage PD and Jasper County Sheriff’s Deputies surrounded the residence. 

After a three-hour standoff, three males and one female exited the residence and surrendered without incident. 

The three males were arrested and were identified as Karon Lewis, 18-year-old Carthage resident, James Johnson, 28-year-old Joplin resident, and Everitt Britt, 28-year-old Joplin resident. 

A warrant for the residence was obtained and Carthage officers recovered items taken in the armed robbery, a Mossberg 500 shotgun with ammunition, a stolen Smith and Wesson 9mm handgun with ammunition, and a small amount of drugs and paraphernalia. 

Karon Lewis, Everitt Britt, and James Johnson are being held at the Jasper County Jail.
All three subjects are being held on warrants for Robbery 1st Degree and Armed Criminal Action. Karon Lewis and Everett Britt have $50,000 cash only bonds. James Johnson has a $75,000 cash only bond.

  2. Karon Lewis has been a trouble maker for years. He was in and out of juvenile detention for assualting family members and various other crimes. Everitt Britt is a several times over felon and he has been to prison multiple times. He actually comes from a really good family. Its sad he went down the path he did.
