So you want to be a Joplin Municipal Court judge

(The city of Joplin posted the following advertisement:)

The City of Joplin, Missouri is seeking a judge for its municipal court. Applicants must be licensed to practice law in the State of Missouri, have at least three years’ experience in the practice of law, and be a citizen of the United States and a resident of the City of Joplin for the last three years.

The city judge serves as judge for the Joplin Municipal Court. This position ensures that all persons charged with the violation of municipal ordinances are treated fairly and in a manner consistent with legal principles. The city judge is responsible for hearing cases brought by city prosecutors. The duties of this position include arraigning defendants, setting bonds, hearing motions, conducting trials, and sentencing defendants in accordance with the applicable law.

The City of Joplin is seeking applicants for either a full-time or part-time city judge. In reviewing the applicants, the City will determine whether to make this a full-time position with one primary judge, or a part-time, shared arrangement between two judges. In your application, please state whether you would be willing or prefer to serve in either capacity and why. A full job description can be found on the at joplinmo.org. The position has a salary range of $63,912.00 to $96,335.00. The City will accept applications through August 2, 2017.
