Tulsa man shot to death during Neosho traffic stop

On July 20th, 2017 at approximately 02:17, officers from the Neosho Police Department responded to 12009 E. Highway 86 for a report of a possible intoxicated subject. 

Subsequent to an initial contact with the subject, the subject attempted to drive away. A stop of the vehicle was conducted. 

A 52-year-old white male from Tulsa, Oklahoma exited the subject vehicle at which time the officer exited his vehicle. 

The subject then removed a handgun from behind his body and raised it towards the officer. The officer fired his weapon and the subject was fatally wounded. 

The officer sustained no visible injuries in the incident. 

The Neosho Police Department has turned the investigation over to investigators of the Missouri Highway Patrol Criminal Investigation Division of Drug and Crime Control. The deceased was taken by Newton County Corner Dale Owens to Kansas City for an autopsy.
