Standoff at 5th and Maiden Lane ends; one suspect in custody

The standoff in the 5th and Maiden Lane area ended moments ago with no further arrests. The Joplin Police SWAT team had concerns that another suspect might have been a home, but determined that no one was there.

A JPD investigation into Sunday's Parr Hill shooting led to the police cornering the suspect at about 5:45 p.m. today, according to Capt. Trevor Duncan.

The police ran into the suspect and "exchanged fire" with him, Duncan said. No one hit in the gunfire exchange and the suspect, a juvenile was taken into custody.

Because of fear that there could be a second suspect and additional gunfire, a SWAT team was called to the scene until it was determined that no one was in the home.

"The neighborhood is safe," Duncan said.

The department will follow its normal procedure and have the officer-involved shooting investigated by the Missouri Highway Patrol.
