7th Street to close at Illinois for stormwater improvements

(From the City of Joplin)

Starting Monday, August 24th, there will be a full road closure of 7th Street between Illinois Avenue and just west of Michigan for 14 days. This closure will allow for crews to connect the stormwater improvements north and south of 7th Street that have been recently completed to reduce flooding possibilities of roadways and properties in the area after rain events. The closure will be in place for two weeks, weather permitting.

Detours will be in place and drivers traveling east or west will use 4th Street and 15th Street for the east/west corridors. South and northbound traffic traveling on Murphy Boulevard or Illinois Avenue should use Main Street or St. Louis Avenue to cross 7th Street during this closure.

Truck traffic traveling eastbound on 7th Street will be directed to 32nd Street via Maiden Lane. Westbound truck traffic on 7th street will be detoured to 32nd street via Range Line Road.

Drivers are encouraged to observe traffic signage regarding detours and be cautious while traveling. Businesses in these areas will remain open and accessible during normal operation hours during the project. Drivers may want to choose alternative routes due to possible delays.

For questions, please contact Public Works at 417-624-0820, ext. 531.

The City is working with Missouri Department of Transportation on this closure and appreciate everyone’s patience during this time.
