Arrest goes haywire as Anderson police officer assaulted by man, woman, has taser stolen and used on him

(From the Anderson Police Department)

On July 28, 2020 Officer Hollis was advised by patrons at the Anderson Public Beach that a male and female were using illegal narcotics.

Officer Hollis located the subjects and made contact with them. Officer Hollis ran both subjects' names through McDonald County Dispatch. McDonald County Dispatch later advised Officer Hollis that the male subject had a Felony Probation and Parole full US Extradition warrant.

Officer Hollis went to detain the male subject and the male subject began running away from Officer Hollis. Officer Hollis was able to catch the male subject and take him down and made attempts to get handcuffs on him.

While on the ground, the male subject began punching and using his elbows on Officer Hollis' head and face. During this altercation, Officer Hollis' police vest was ripped off.

The female subject came behind Officer Hollis and began attempting to push Officer Hollis off of the male subject.

While Officer Hollis was being pushed off the male subject was able to get up and began running. Officer Hollis deployed his taser, the male subject fell but quickly recovered and began running again. Officer Hollis deployed a second taser cartridge and the subject fell again. Officer Hollis attempted to place handcuffs on him while on the ground.

The male subject was able to steal Officer Hollis' taser in the altercation and began stunning Officer Hollis. Officer Hollis was able to grab the taser back and throw it away from the male subject.

Officer Hollis got up and created distance about the time other officers arrived on scene and were able to place handcuffs on both subjects. Officer Hollis was transported to the hospital and released later that night.

The male subject was charged with 1st Degree Assault on LEO, Armed Criminal Action, Resisting Felony Arrest, and Attempting to Escape Confinement. The female was charged with 2nd Degree Assault on LEO, and Interfering with Felony Arrest.
