Traffic at intersection of 32nd and Schifferdecker to be impacted beginning Monday

(From the City of Joplin)

Project work along West 32nd Street originally scheduled for the week of May 2, 2022 has been delayed due to weather. Please note that construction will begin Monday, May 9, and will impact traffic flow at 32nd St. and Schifferdecker Avenue. Details are below.

Starting Monday, May 9, lane shifts and traffic patterns will be changed at the intersection of 32nd Street and Schifferdecker Avenue as work continues on the 32nd Street widening project.

The traffic signals at this intersection will be placed in the “flashing red” mode, requiring all traffic to stop at the intersection and move through it as a four-way stop. This traffic pattern is expected last for approximately one week, weather permitting. Work near the intersection will allow for the connection of a new water main to the existing water main located under Schifferdecker Avenue.

Advanced warning signs will be in place along roadways, and modified traffic lanes will be delineated with channelizing cones. Traffic delays are expected, and drivers should consider using alternate routes during this time, if possible.

This work is being performed in conjunction with the 32nd St. Widening project, funded through the 3/8 cent Capital Improvement Sales Tax approved by voters in 2014.
