Annual World Music & Cuisine Festival scheduled at MSSU

(From Missouri Southern State University)

The 11th Annual World Music & Cuisine Festival will be held Saturday, April 18, in the Young Gymnasium at Missouri Southern State University (MSSU) from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. This event is open to all campus and community members.

Guests will enjoy an evening of live music and global cuisine representing more than 30 countries. Wristbands will be available at the door for $15 and include access to music performances and unlimited food samples while supplies last. Wristbands are $10 for children under 12 and MSSU students with a valid ID.

The festival will feature diverse international dishes prepared by MSSU students, faculty, staff, and community members, alongside offerings from local restaurants Magic Noodle and Taste of Italy. Live music performances will highlight cultures around the world. Kufura, a local Zimbabwean-inspired marimba band, will headline the event, with additional performances by MSSU students from Nepal, India, and Mexico. Missouri Southern is proud to provide an immersive celebration of global traditions.

“The World Music & Cuisine Festival has become a beloved event on MSSU’s campus, and in the Joplin community,” said Aaron Carmichael, MSSU’s Intensive English Program Director.

“It gives MSSU a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to Global Education by highlighting the different countries and cultures represented by our diverse student body, faculty, staff, and community. It brings everyone together to share wonderful food and music and allows participants to experience the world without leaving Joplin. This is the 11th year for the festival, and we hope to continue it for years to come.”

The World Music & Cuisine Festival brings people together through shared cultural experiences. It showcases the role of food and music as universal, deeply human sources of connection across borders. Proceeds from the event support Missouri Southern’s International Club, which helps connect and support international students as they study at MSSU.
