Prairie State Park to hold public information meeting

Representatives from Missouri State Parks invite the public to attend an informational meeting at Prairie State Park on Saturday, Aug. 7. The meeting will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the visitor center. A 2-mile guided hike to see bison will be offered after the meeting.

Those wanting to participate in the hike are encouraged to bring their cameras and binoculars, and should also bring water, snacks, a hat and sunscreen. This 2-mile hike is over uneven terrain; sturdy shoes are recommended. Dress for the weather, but shorts are not recommended.

The public is invited to share comments and ask questions about the site and its operations. Representatives from the site will be present to provide information and to answer questions.

Input from the public is important to Missouri State Parks. These informational meetings, which are being held in all state parks and historic sites, help create two-way communication with the public. The meetings give staff the opportunity to let people know the current status and future plans for the park or historic site, and they offer visitors the opportunity to comment on the facilities. Road closure planned at 4th Street and Geneva Avenue

There will be a road closure at 4th Street and Geneva Avenue starting Monday, July 26 through Friday, July 30. 

This closure, just east of Range Line Road and south of North Park Mall, will allow stormwater work to be completed to alleviate drainage issues. 

Following the pipe installation, crews will overlay the road surface.

Drivers are urged to use extreme caution in the work area, and to adjust their travel routes as needed during this time.

Barton County deputies, Ozark Drug Enforcement seize meth, fentanyl, arrest Golden City residents

On July 18th, 2021 at approximately 9:30A.M. the Barton County Sheriff’s Office along with the Ozark Drug Enforcement Team served a search warrant at the residence of 1155 SE. 75th RD Golden City, Mo.

A Deputy had taken a report in regards to an attempted theft of a catalytic converter on 07/15/2021. At that time the suspect was not successful in completing the theft an was scared off. Deputies were able to positively identify the suspect who resides in Golden City, Mo., on the victim's surveillance camera.

During the investigation the Deputy also received information that Goss was also in possession of illegal narcotics in the residence where he was residing. With the information the Deputy received he was able to obtain a search warrant for the residence mentioned above.

 
Upon searching the residence, tools were seized that are believed to be used in the crime of stealing catalytic converters. Also located in the residence was suspected illegal narcotics. 

Deputies seized what is believed to be Fentanyl as well as suspected Methamphetamine and Marijuana. These items were seized and will be sent to the Missouri Highway Patrol Crime Lab for testing. Other items in the residence seized were believed to be stolen items from reports Deputies had taken in the area as well.

Two suspects were arrested at the residence. Roy Donald Goss Jr. (37) of Golden City, Mo. and Randie Michelle Hawkins (37) of Golden City, Mo. The following charges were sent to the Prosecuting Attorney:

7/12/2021 Officers were dispatched to SW 1st Ln for a report of shoplifting in progress.. There were a total of 3 arrested. During the investigation, it was found that 2 subjects had Barton County warrants and one had a Cedar County warrant. One was issued a summons for possession of drug paraphernalia. One was arrested for property damage and transported to the Barton County Jail. Two were arrested for stealing.

7/13/2021 Officer took a report of a theft in the 1700 block of Hidden Lane. Investigation continues.

7/15/2021 Officers were dispatched to the 600 block of West 10th St for a possible physical domestic. One person was arrested for Assault-Domestic 2nd and transported to the Barton County Jail. Two additional charges of Assault on a Law enforcement Officer, along with Resisting/Interfering with Arrest were also filed on the same subject.

7/18/2021 Officers were dispatched to the 400 block of 407 East 12th regarding a report of fraud. Investigation continues.
