Plans announced for Joplin Fourth of July Celebration

The Joplin Independence Day Celebration will kick off on Monday, July 4th at 6:00 p.m. at the Joplin Athletic Complex located at 3301 W. 1st Street. Food vendors and concession stands will be selling funnel cakes, ice cream, barbeque, pizza, tacos, shaved ice, and many more carnival-fare food items to those attending.

Various family friendly activities will go throughout the evening, including sports games, a youth homerun derby on the Will Norton Miracle Field, dunk tank, and a touch-a-truck event. Wristbands for access to bounce houses will be available to purchase and face painting will be available for a nominal fee. The Fraternal Order of Police will have a child safety event on-site providing free child identification kits to parents. Live music by the local band Solace will begin at 7:00pm and play hits from the 80’s and 90’s.

The biggest fireworks show in the area will begin at 9:45 p.m. Viewing areas will be available at the Gene Bassman Softball Complex and at the Wendell Redden Stadium located within the Joplin Athletic Complex. Visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets.
Due to safety concerns, visitors are asked to not bring grills or pets. Personal fireworks and alcohol are prohibited by city ordinance.
