(From the City of Joplin)
Volunteers are welcome to join staff and friends of Cunningham Park in preparing the park trees and foliage for the cooler temperatures of the upcoming fall and winter seasons. A work day will be held on Saturday, September 20, starting at 9 a.m. An ending time has not been determined, however it is anticipated that work could be done near the lunch hour.
Workers will focus on two areas of maintenance, including:
Tree work with City Arborist Mike McDaniel will include mulching and pruning, (including work both above ground and below) all the trees in the park. Mulching tools will be provided, although volunteers are encouraged to bring pruners and loppers to supplement the Parks’ supply.
Butterfly Garden with Sara Fisher. Volunteers will remove sections of landscape cloth in the Butterfly Garden, as well as feed plants in the garden. Some trimming of plants is also needed. In addition, the knock out roses located in the parking lot and other areas throughout the park need to be pruned as well.
The volunteers should bring tools (as mentioned above), gloves, bottled water, and anything else they may need. For more information, please call the Joplin Parks office at 417-624-6937.
