Lamar man killed in two-vehicle accident, driver airlifted to Freeman

A Lamar man was killed in a two-vehicle accident 5:20 p.m. Tuesday on U. S. 160 in Mindenmines.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2010 Ford Ranger driven by Raymond E. Asher, 60, Kansas City, Kansas, attempted to turn left and pulled into the path of a 1996 Toyota Camry driven by Janet S. McArthur, 56, Lamar.

A passenger in the McArthur vehicle, David H. McArthur, 85, Lamar, was pronounced dead at the scene by Barton County Coroner Tucker Joustra. Janet McArthur suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Freeman West Hospital, Joplin.

A passenger in the Asher vehicle, Roni R. Barandas, 42, Kansas City, Kansas, was taken by ambulance to Via Christi Hospital, Pittsburg.

Asher suffered minor injuries.

The fatality was the 69th fatal crash this year for Highway Patrol Troop D.
