Crowder College Upward Bound seeking applications

(From Crowder College)

The Crowder College Upward Bound and Upward Bound Math & Science are currently seeking applications from local high school students. The Crowder College Upward Bound and Upward Bound Math & Science projects serve high school students that have a desire and potential to attend college.

The Upward Bound Programs provide services at no cost to 300 freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors attending 37 high schools in Barry, Barton, Bates, Cedar, Dade, Jasper, Lawrence, McDonald, Newton, and Vernon counties.

To qualify, applicants must meet only one of two criteria. The applicant must either be a first generation college student (to be first generation, the applicant cannot reside with a natural/adoptive parent who has a Bachelor’s degree or higher), or the applicant must meet an income guideline (defined annually by the federal government). The programs’ objectives are to enhance academic motivation and help students develop the skills necessary to successfully complete high school and graduate from a program of postsecondary education.

“The best part about working for the program is watching students dreams become realities. We enjoy working with area students to develop skills that will help them be successful in high school, postsecondary education, and beyond,” according to Wade Williams, Project Director.

Upward Bound and Upward Bound Math Science are part of the TRIO program, a federally-funded program designed to provide educational access and assistance to income-eligible, first-generation, and/or disabled students. Crowder College hosts twelve TRIO programs.

Applications are available in high school guidance offices and online at crowdertrio.com, click Upward Bound. If you have any questions, please contact Wade Williams at 417.455.5688 or upwardbound@crowder.edu.
