Events to close various roads, including portions of Main Saturday

Various events are taking place in Joplin this Saturday, September 24, and travelers may want to take note of road closures for these activities.

• Main Street, from 2nd Street to 7th Street and 8th to 15th Street, will close at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24 for the Guilty by Association Truck Show. Vehicles can still travel east/west on 7th, however should watch for pedestrians attending the show. Main Street will reopen at approximately 11 p.m. Saturday.

• Starting at 6 p.m. Saturday, 400-plus trucks with the truck show will convoy from I-44 on South Schifferdecker to Zora, then head east to reach Main Street, and will travel south on Main to reach the downtown area to park for the show. We encourage everyone to please use caution while in the downtown area during these times and to enjoy the event.

• Saturday morning from approximately 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., “Walk a Mile in My Shoes” 5K Run will take place with the run route encompassing the area of 26th Street and Monroe Avenue. Drivers should use caution while in this neighborhood.

• From approximately 7 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., the SWMO Kids Run will take place along Main Street, and it will be closed from 10th Street to 14th Street.

• Starting at 9 a.m., Virginia Avenue will be closed from 14th to 15th Street for a special event to benefit Police Canines.

The City of Joplin reminds all drivers to please use caution when in these areas and appreciates their cooperation.
